Who would believe it’s 20 years since Positive Images started trading. In 1997 our MD Martin had decided that the time was right, the stars had aligned and it was now or never.
From very humble beginnings in New Malden Positive Images have carved themselves into a leading supplier of bespoke exhibition stands having worked with thousands of clients on a huge amount of varied projects.
“I remember my first day vividly with a new clear order book, a new phone line, suppliers in place, a few existing contacts and a rather old and tatty Thomson’s Local directory which was effectively my little black book of names” Martin recalls. The first few years were as any new business owner will know were nothing short of a challenge however Positive Images grew year upon year within the ever changing exhibition industry.
Initially supplying the superb Expand range of portable displays systems, we quickly became the UK’s largest Expand distributor and had an enviable client list from all walks of the business spectrum to include HSBC, M&S, Waitrose, Nokia and the BBC to name a few.
During the early 2000’s having outgrown our offices in Sutton we moved to West Sussex to larger premises. In 2008 we felt the sudden shock of a massive global slowdown combined with the market for the portable display product being in decline due to the introduction of cheap copy products from China which in turn was making it very difficult for quality to shine above perceived value for money. As we can all remember times were as tough as they had ever been and we needed to realign ourselves within the market place.
As a result and after many hours of searching for a new product range to run alongside the roller banner and pop-up display systems we sold we were one of the first companies to introduce the now popular Tension Fabric System. Combined with an aluminium skeleton we use fabric images attached under tension to the framework to create stunning and exciting designs.
Working on projects and floor space from 6m2 to 200m2 no job is too large or too small and we have been fortunate to work on varied projects from a simple backdrop to greet John Travolta (who didn’t show for our client by the way!) right through to being commissioned to help open The Shard.
So here we are after our first 20 years with so many memories, all of which bring a smile to our faces!
We would like to thank all of our many clients for their support and trust in us to do the job right, first time, every time.
Here’s to the next 20!
